Make music with student-created app

It’s called Sketch-A-Song. It’s free, and it’s designed to make music creation accessible to everyone — even people without formal musical training. Jacob Zax, a senior political science major, and classmate Adam Segal, an English literature major, both in Arts & Sciences, are among seven friends who devoted last summer to creating the app.

Scharlach to discuss aging-friendly communities at Friedman lecture

Andrew Scharlach, PhD, the Eugene and Rose Kleiner Professor of Aging at the University of California, Berkeley, will deliver the 2013 Friedman lecture Friday, May 3, at the Eric P. Newman Education Center on the Medical Campus. His lecture is titled “Creating Aging-Friendly Communities.”

??Book idea gets boost from awards, faculty fellowship?

?Rebecca Messbarger, PhD, professor of Italian in Arts & Sciences, has a great start to her next book. Not only did she win two awards for an article summarizing her book idea, but next fall, she will have more time and resources to devote to writing, thanks to a faculty fellowship in the Center for the Humanities.

Graduate students recognize faculty mentors

The Graduate Student Senate recognized eight faculty members with Outstanding Faculty Mentor Awards during its 14th annual awards ceremony, held April 10 in the Women’s Building Formal Lounge. Six other faculty received special recognition for excellence in mentoring.
